A Dazzling Celebration of Talent: Studio 2000’s Chapter 34 Shines at Riverhead Theatre

I love seeing this show each year and always look forward to reviewing their work. Over the years I have watched many young dancers move through the age grades and find the Leavers' dance and emotional element every year. I was lucky to witness the final dress rehearsal of Chapter 34, Studio 2000’s spectacular annual showcase, and it was nothing short of extraordinary.

Held at the Riverhead Theatre in Louth, the performance was a vibrant, high-energy celebration of youth, passion, and sheer talent — a true testament to the dedication and artistry of this much-loved local dance school.

With more than 100 children gracing the stage — some as young as three, others blossoming into confident young adults — Chapter 34 radiated the joy and discipline that comes from years of committed training and heartfelt instruction. The show, which (ironically) marks the 35th year of Studio 2000, demonstrated just how much this company means to the community, and how deeply rooted dance is in the lives of its students.

The evening was an impressive feat of choreography and production, featuring a staggering 24 dances in Act One and 18 in Act Two. Each number was immaculately rehearsed, creatively costumed, and packed with personality — from energetic jazz routines to lyrical pieces full of emotional depth. The sheer variety kept the audience captivated, and the professionalism of the performers belied their ages.

It’s clear that Studio 2000 is not just a dance school — it’s a family. That spirit shines through in every performance, nurtured by the incredible leadership of Nicky Wright. With her daughter Chloe Goldby, whose new daughter features on teh Welcome page of the programme, they have built a school that not only teaches technique, but also confidence, teamwork, and the joy of performance. Their love and care echoed through every beat of the show.

The youngest dancers drew smiles and cheers from the tiny audience of 5 at the dress rehearsal, with their charm and enthusiasm, while the older students showcased stunning skill, poise, and power, many performing at a level that would not be out of place on a professional stage.

I always smile as the Babes take to the stage and the pre-schoolers did not disappoint with their rendition of Barnyard Boogie. The costumes were a sheer a delight and watching the tots boogieing across the stage is sheer delight. I also enjoyed as the older dancers delivered a beautiful routine to The Colours of My Life from Barnum.

We were treated to an incredible array of dances and styles demonstrating ballet, tap, modern and jazz. But I always marvel as the dancers step out and brave singing too. I loved teh medley from Six, which is a fabulous show and it was clear that the girls loved singing and dancing to that show's tunes and the addition of male dancer Freddie Warwick was inspired, as was his delivery of You'll Be Back from Hamilton fitted perfectly to the vibe created.

The Beetlejuice set stood out early on in the second act and the timing of the dancers to deliver a perfectly lip synched performance was quite awe-inspiring.

The finale (which Nicky told me that they hadn't rehearsed until tonight) was great fun and reminded the audience just how many young dancers contributed to the whole show and that didn't include the very youngest who had gone home as it was too late for them to stay up for!

Chapter 34 is a joyful, uplifting experience that will leave you grinning long after the curtain falls. Whether you're a proud parent, a dance enthusiast, or simply someone, like me, who appreciates the magic of live performance, this show is a must-see. Studio 2000 continues to set the bar high — and with a new generation already dancing their hearts out, the future is bright.

Bravo to every dancer, teacher, and helper behind the scenes. Chapter 34 is a triumph.
