SOME RESPONSES TO OUR R&D WORKSHOP WEEK BY THE PARTICIPANTS
"It was such an insightful introduction to the work of Children's theatre for me as a professional actor/performer."
"The work and industry experiences of the workshop leaders were invaluable to understanding the nature of this work."
"Kazbah created a space in which to be open and curious so that we could create work together. The variety and formation of the week allowed for continual learning as well as reflection so that we could create and put into practice what we had learnt. "
"It has been great for this work to be local and that it'll go onto build and develop the creative work happening in North East Lincolnshire."

“I found it was supportive and great fun too!!!”

"I have had the most pleasurable week of experimental and enlightening 'playing' around!! I have learned so many new techniques of performance, particularly working with puppets and the art of puppetry in its many forms. Thank you Andy Evans and Kazbah Theatre for the opportunity to work in a friendly, safe and positive environment with highly skilled practitioners!! Many best wishes in moving forward with future projects".

"It was a brilliant way for local practitioners and performers to come together to experiment and discover. Not only was it a great networking opportunity, but it provided a chance for people who perhaps don't have the facilities or team to develop their craft in such a way, that valuable space in which to do so. "

About Kazbah Theatre
Up Close and Personal
Kazbah Theatre has been created by playwright and theatre maker, Andy Evans. After thirty years as a teacher, Andy decided to take on a new challenge. He left teaching and returned to university to take an MA in Theatre at the University of Lincoln, graduating with a Distinction in 2020. He has since gone on to develop his research and is currently undertaking a PhD in Drama at the University. He also formed a theatre company specialising in developing new writing for the stage in 2013, along with regular collaborator, actress Sara Beasley. In 2023, Breakwater Theatre Company celebrates ten years of bringing new writing to stages across North East Lincolnshire.
As a playwright, Andy has worked professionally with numerous companies including Hull Truck Theatre Company, Dirty Protest, Slung Low, Middle Child and National Theatre Wales. His first published play was entitled "Rodge!" and he went on to greater success when in 2000, he became the first British writer published by Playscripts Incorporated in the USA with his play "Moonlight Marionettes". This play has gone on to have almost 30 different productions internationally. He is currently working on a new production set at a circus involving some amazing puppets that is hoped to premiere in Cleethorpes in early 2024.. Meanwhile, he is also entering Kazbah in the Bristol 48 hour Puppet Film Challenge 2023 and is in discussions with musicians who want to use Kazbah's puppetry in a music video.
