Kazbah Theatre offers a free workshop for World Puppetry Day 2024

What is World Puppetry Day?

Launched in 2003, the World Puppetry Day is both a real tool for the promotion of puppetry arts and a project allowing to unite the puppet actors globally.

This world day seeks to promote the puppet arts by defending, among other objectives:

  • the maintenance and the safeguard of the traditions and, in parallel, the renewal of the art of puppetry

  • the use of puppetry as a means of ethical and aesthetic education

The World Puppetry Day is now celebrated all over the world through the Union Internationale de la Marionette (which is affiliated with UNESCO)’s National Centres and their members.

This day is an occasion to collectively celebrate puppetry arts today!

NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION AFILIATED TO UNESWHO, OR WHAT, IS KAZBAH THEATRE?

Kazbah Theatre is an award-winning theatre company based in Cleethorpes, formed in February 2023, that specialises in using puppetry to make work for children and family audiences. Kazbah has performed in the Festival of the Sea, Grimsby, Edible Grimsby, The Great Grimsby Christmas Festival (all 2023) and will be appearing at Love Grimsby and Love Immingham during February 2024. They will also be producing a new show at Cleethorpes Library in May 2024 and appearing at the Beverley Puppet Festival in July 2024. We have worked closely with North East Lincolnshire Council and Create North East Linconshire.

Kazbah Theatre is run by a highly experienced, former KS2 teacher, Andy Evans, who has an up-to-date enhanced DBS and has public liability insurance.

WHAT IS BEING OFFERED?

To celebrate World Puppetry Day 2024, Kazbah Theatre is prepared to offer one primary school a free two-hour puppetry workshop worth £250.

The workshop will cover the basics of puppet manipulation and will help pupils to explore new ways of expressing their creativity through the performing arts. The workshop is aimed at KS2 (years 5 or 6) and will help with developing vocabulary, language and communication skills at Key Stage 2, either as a part of a discrete drama strand or could tie-in to other subject work already being undertaken at the school. The workshop can, and will, be tailored to the school’s needs.

There are NO costs to the winning school as all costs will be met by Kazbah Theatre as a part of World Puppetry Day. This event is purely celebrating the artform on this special day.

If you are interested, please email andy.evans@kazbahtheatre.co.uk as there is only one free workshop available and it will go to the first school to accept this unique offer.
